Bridge Battle (Il Gioco del Ponte) TBA Usually a serene place to sip espresso, the banks of the Arno River is the site of fierce competition on the last Sunday of June each year. The Bridge Battle dates back to the Middle Ages when northern and southern Pisans fought for supremacy by the main bridge. The violence of past rivalries is now replaced with an endurance contest, where members from each side try to push a wooden chariot or ram to the opponent's side. The traditional march through town should not be missed.
